My new jewelry line Westland Avenue is in the making. Below are some of my rings and a few collages I made for inspiration.

DIY Ikea Rast Dresser & Bedroom Decor
It has been SO LONG since I've posted, I apologize for the hiatus. I've been helping my boyfriend with his business and I have not had much time to myself lately. Additionally, I got a new phone and turned in my old phone for a rebate and didn't think to back up all of my photos including my tutorial photos for this dresser! So unfortunately, I have no pictures to document the process. What I can tell you is that I was inspired by Aubrey and Lindsay's makeover of the Ikea Rast dresser (and now Design Manifest's Rast makeover as well)!
Some thoughts: It's lower than the other side table and it really bugs me. I've read that a great way to help even it out is to have matching lamps that are the same height by putting books beneath it on the lower dresser. I'm definitely going to try this. I am also on the lookout for some tall art to adorn the walls.
Here's the bedroom so far:
In other news, we are moving to LA in the next few months! I'm so excited to have a fresh space to design!
Lost Wax Casting Jewelry Class: Rings
Wednesday, February 20, 2013
I finally learned to make RINGS in my lost wax casting jewelry class! I adore rings and have been waiting ever so patiently. Here are my first two:
The process of making rings is similar to the sculpting I've been doing, but you use a mandrel (a ring sizer, shown below) to build off of. A flat piece of wax is wrapped around the size of your choosing and the red wax is then dripped on and built up until it is the desired thickness. You can then use a series of tools to add texture, cut our shapes, etc. or continue building wax drop by drop until a shape is formed.
These rings took mehours days to complete. Especially the delicate one, it broke many times in the process and took forever to make it symmetrical. It's still not perfect, but that is the beauty of working with wax. The imperfections show through making each piece a unique work of art.
The gratification and awe of holding a piece of metal in my hand, that used to be a fragile piece of wax, is unreal. I made these! And they will last forever! It's quite amazing.

PLANS: I am signed up for the advanced class in a few weeks and am going to start working on a collection of pieces that I will mold/duplicate to sell.
A Couch And Coffee Table At The Foot Of The Bed
Thursday, February 14, 2013
I really love a couch and coffee table at the foot of a bed. I used to have two ottomans at the foot of my bed, but now they are in the living room and I miss having a place to sit to put my shoes on in the morning or layout my clothes the night before! Although my current bedroom is too narrow to to have a small couch plus coffee table (it would block my dresser), I do adore this little seating area in the bedroom. I don't like reading on my bed because my mattress is way too soft. Either I'll fall asleep (when that's not the goal) or it hurts my back. While my boyfriend is in the living room watching TV, this could be the perfect little place for me to do the stuff I like to do: design jewelry, make jewelry, read my favorite blogs, write blogs, cozy up with a good book, or snuggle with my dog. And I know that for smaller spaces a seating area can be created using a cozy chair and side table, but to me, it doesn't have the same aesthetic as the couch/coffee table combo. I like how the couch really compartmentalizes the room. And I like how I could have guests in my room without feeling weird that they are sitting on my bed. This doesn't happen often, but sometimes we have guests in the boudoir, like during a party, per se. Here are some inspirational photos. Basically, photos #3 and #5 are my dream bedrooms:

I Wish I Could Rock Bangs!
Wednesday, February 6, 2013
So, I have curly hair. Over the years, I've figured out how to make my hair just the way I like it: smooth loose waves (as oppose to kinky frizzy curly cues). I have always wanted bangs, but there is no way I am going to put myself in a situation where I wouldn't be able to wear my hair natural, it would be a disaster. There are always those days when I don't have time to do my hair. That being said, I can dream away about chic bangs, right!? Messy or sleek, down or top knot, here are some that I adore:

Clever Design Solutions For Small Spaces
Saturday, February 2, 2013
I've always been fascinated by tiny spaces because they force you to design more creatively. Designing a small space is a puzzle and with all the right pieces it can have many living areas within one room. I've always loved creative storage solutions because every square inch is utilized (secret storage is the best!) and it blends seamlessly with the decor. And I love lofts too, they have a treehouse feel to them! I was inspired to compile this post by an amazing video of a 271 square foot flat in NY. What the tenant has done to make it versatile for sleep, play, and work is quite amazing. Check it out below:
